Are you a new student or visiting researcher that has not been to our lab?

All new personnel must register for and complete the following modules before they can requisition for a key to the laboratory.

Lab and Research Safety Training

  1. Introduction to research safety
  2. Chemical safety
  3. Chemical waste management

If the research requires use of biological and infectious organisms, the following two additional modules must be completed.

  1. Biological and Infectious waste
  2. Biological safety in the laboratory

Are you a principal investigator (PI)?

Each PI is responsible for training new personnel, maintaining chemical inventory, dispose chemical waste in a timely and responsible manner. Since the lab spaces are shared it is the responsibility of each PI to instruct his/her students to maintain a clean work bench and all common areas including and not limited to shared equipment, fume hoods, BSCs, floors, shelves etc.

Training new personnel

All PIs are required to provide and document the training to new personnel in their laboratories. New requests for FREF or other campus funding will not be awarded unless the PIs are in compliance with these requirements.

At a minimum, each PI is required to provide and document annual

  1. Lab specific training
  2. Emergencies, chemical and biological spills training
